Paul Hicks

I have been drawing and painting as far back as I can remember. My favourite subjects have always been coastal scenes, ships, animals and buildings. During the 1970's I painted mainly watercolours of castles, cottages and seaside scenes. These I sold via agents and in exhibitions at venues such as Bourne Hall and The Fairfield Halls. I progressed to exhibiting at The Bayswater Road Open Air Exhibition ( lovingly refered to as "The Railings") every Sunday.
I found my niche when I switched to painting with acrylics and received a commission to paint a pet portrait from an old photograph. One thing led to another. I gave up my "proper job" to pursue a career as a semi professional artist. Having retired I paint purely for pleasure but still I love the feeling of being useful that painting to commission provides.
